Cracked or chipped windscreens can be a significant hazard in addition to obstructing a driver's view and must be addressed promptly.

Windscreens are more than just a shield for the driver from the wind. They also protect the occupants in the vehicle from debris, such as rain, bugs, dust, and other materials. What's more, the windshield of a car is crucial for the overall structural integrity of the vehicle.

Windscreens are made from tempered glass in order to maintain their resilience and shape when subject to the pressure of air coming at them as the vehicle moves. During a crash, the windshield is meant to fracture rather than completely shatter, to keep people in the car safe from deadly glass projectiles.

If a windshield is cracked, however, it cannot be relied upon to behave as intended when there is a collision since the structural integrity of the windshield might have been compromised.

Small chips can easily develop into dangerous cracks due to pressure, irregular terrain, or changing temperatures. During the winter, cracks in the windshield may spread out horizontally. In the summertime, high temperatures could cause chips to become vertical cracks.
